Crystal Coming Home

Crystal must return home—or die trying

The Lost Colony, Book 2

Crystal’s last five brain segments have come online at last—and with his maturity comes an overwhelming need to mate, a compulsion so strong he must die of pain unless fulfilled.

But Crystal’s silicon-based biology makes him a singleton, a unique lifeform—no mate for him in the Milky Way. When his lifelong friends, Zeki and Veroh, learn he arrived as an egg from the Sculptor Galaxy, they finagle a Space Force Exploration trip to his home world, the first-ever intergalactic voyage.

But there is a catch—before leaving they must agree to intervene and try to prevent a looming civil war between two factions of the Scarerows, the most war-like species known to Earth.

And they must reach Crystal’s home in time to somehow stop the Star-Born-One, an utterly malignant living small star which has burned several planets to cinders, killing billions of intelligent beings . . . And now has aimed itself at Crystal’s home world.

Reviews

Enjoyed this novel very much! The science of science fiction, though present, took a back seat to the social and political aspects and interactions of the characters and species. Crystal is a very unique creation and I hope there might be a sequel that shows his and all the other primary characters progression and development…and perhaps of the universe and world building begun in this book. You may enjoy this book if you enjoy writers such as Poul Anderson and C. J. Cherryh. Recommended!

It’s a tough call, but this might be my favorite of Joseph Green’s novels. It took only a few pages for me to become thoroughly invested in the human and alien characters; and that was before I learned what the humans were doing on Bitter Sands, and even before I met Crystal. My only complaint is that the novel ended too soon.

Haven’t enjoyed a space adventure this much since “Star Wars.” Again not unlike Star Wars, Joe Green’s novel will appeal to readers of all ages. No spoilers…but this reader fell in love with the character “Crystal,” a fascinating alien life form. Looking forward to a sequel!
